Air Filters Maintain Engine Power
Air filters remove dirt or dust from the air required for gasoline to burn in the engine. Accumulated dirt or dust restricts airflow, which results in a loss of engine power and poor fuel consumption.

A clogged air filter causes the engine power to drop. Engine combustion requires a large amount of air. However, the air contains substances hazardous to the engine (e.g. alumina, carbon,
sand, etc.). If these hazardous substances enter the engine, they will clog the carburettor jets, causing the engine to malfunction and damaging the cylinder and piston. They will also get into the oil with the consequent early wear and tear on engine parts. Thus, filters are used to prevent such hazardous substances from entering.

The filter is located at the air intake port in the engine, playing an important role in feeding purified air to the engine by removing hazardous substances.

Generally, filter deterioration depends on how clogged the filter becomes with increasing mileage. However, filter clogging depends a lot on road conditions and the environment. For example, filters on motorcycles that are frequently used in rough conditions such as on dirt roads or in heavy traffic become clogged very quickly. Regular inspection of air filters is required based on periodic replacement standards, which are based on the above. If maintenance is neglected, it will result in the air filter becoming clogged, preventing enough air from being fed for combustion, causing a drop in the engine power, and eventually leading to poor acceleration and fuel consumption.

Genuine Air Filters:
Outstanding Filtering Performance
Yamaha genuine air filters have a high filtering capacity before they need to be replaced. Compared with nongenuine filters, they are much more durable, and there is also a big difference in their marginal performance. In addition, by keeping a high level of filtering performance, these filter elements help to feed the proper amount of air required for optimum combustion. The filter elements greatly differ in shape according to the design power, displacement, valve system, carburetor system, and intake passage. Other important factors for filtering include humidity, temperature, dust substance, air quality, environment, and so on. Yamaha gathers and accumalates usage data for filters in a number of countries and areas, conducts strict tests on individual engines, and designs filters best suited for use in the respective environments. Based on these tests, similar machines in Greece – because of the dusty roads – and Switzerland – because of the mountainous terrain and altitude – may be equipped with different air filters.
