Professional F115A

4-stroke outboards are favoured for their economy and smooth, quiet running. Recent popularity is also due in part to changes in the Recreational Craft Directive (RCD), which include strict emission regulations for marine leisure use engines, effectively banning all but the most complex EFI 2-strokes. The RCD however does not apply to commercial craft and operators can choose between 4-stroke and 2-stroke power. Traditionally 4-strokes were preferred for charter boats, river taxis and applications where slow speed work was involved but more recently the RNLI have proven the prowess of 4-strokes by selecting the Yamaha F115 to power the new Atlantic 85 fast response RIBs.
