Engine: more power and better handling
The engine has the air intake in front and the exhaust to the rear. Why?
-Lightweight parts such as the airbox are located higher and up front. And more out of the way of dirt and debris.
-Heavy engine parts are concentrated in a lower and more central position.
-The fuel sits in a lower and more central place in the frame, so the fuel load has less influence on the handling.
-The air intake tract is straighter, which benefits the high-rpm performance.
-By having the exhaust pipe ‘snake’ around the cylinder, its weight is concentrated around the engine, while it has enough length for good torque.
All in all, this new engine layout with its mass centralisation combined with a YZ-F based, light-handling chassis is a major improvement in agility and rideability!
This potent powerhouse has a stronger feeling all through the rev range, and is considerably more powerful than before. With a bore of 97mm, 4 large titanium valves, 44 mm throttle body, forged piston and offset cylinder layout it revs effortlessly into high rpm ranges. The fuel injection provides excellent starting and running in all kinds of temperature and altitude variations.
Another benefit enabled by the fuel injection, is the accessory Yamaha Power Tuner.
This device allows to personalise the engine character to your own taste or riding style. Or to the specific riding conditions in your area. Also, you can tune the engine to modifications like a different muffler! In an easy way, you can set air/fuel mixture and ignition timing maps, on the spot. And without need for a laptop, which can be a hassle to bring along and use in dusty or wet conditions.

An enduro racer that's powerful and fun
The elaborate aluminium main frame construction is compact, has excellent flex characteristics and provides a light and nimble feel for the bike. The narrow knee grip and flat top of the seat allow easy rider movement on the machine. Even the fuel cap is out of the way, for extreme weight shifts in tricky situations.
Suspensions and brakes
High quality KYB ® suspensions are widely regarded as being amongst the very best designs available today. They feature ample setting possibilities. Low-friction coatings help sensitivity, a clear benefit in enduro usage. The 270mm diameter front disc brake offers excellent stopping performance together with accurate feel.
