Ever since the launch of Yamaha’s Hyper Modified project in 2011, talented motorcycle customizers from all over the world have drawn inspiration from the machines created under this concept. By pushing the boundaries of design and technology further than ever before, Roland Sands, Ludovic Lazareth and Marcus Walz have demonstrated what can be achieved when their creativity is given no boundaries to restrain it.

Last year Yamaha extended this concept even further by introducing the world to Yard Built specials. Pioneered by Roland Sands, Wrenchmonkees and Deus Ex Machina, the Yard Built project was designed to provide inspirational ideas on how to transform modern Yamaha models into unique customized motorcycles. Having completed their own individual special, each builder was then given the opportunity to produce unique aftermarket kits and sell them to Yamaha customers - allowing those who once only dreamed of building their own special to fulfill their ambition.

This year Yamaha has combined the concepts of Yard Built and Hyper Modified into a new philosophy – Joint Built. Inspired by the high-end customisation of the Hyper Modified machines, but encompassing the back street earthiness of the Yard Built projects, Joint Built aims to encourage owners to modify their Yamaha motorcycles to give them a truly personalized look.

You don’t have to go as far as the Hyper Modified machines to gain your own bespoke Yamaha, however with the help of the Yard Built builders and the foresight of the Hyper Modified creators, all Yamaha riders now have the opportunity to put their own individual stamp on their motorcycle.
