The 2022 Yamaha–Riders for Health project
In the first year of the partnership, we focused on the Riders for Health’s Gambia programme, providing help to replace and maintain the fleet of Yamaha AG100 motorcycles. These bikes are used to deliver crucial preventative items like bed nets to protect against malaria, as well as enable the running of regular immunisation clinics against various diseases.
In The Gambia, many of these Yamaha AG100s in use are now ageing and in need of urgent replacement. Plus, the Riders for Health workshops and offices need new tools and IT equipment to keep operations running effectively.
To react to their urgent needs, Riders for Health became the title partner of our Yamaha Ténéré World Raid Team to create awareness for their cause. Besides that, Two Wheels for Life, the UK-based fundraising arm of Riders for Health, held a prize draw with the official Yamaha Ténéré World Raid Team bikes of Alessandro Botturi that rode in the 2022 Africa Eco Race, and which we donated as a special prize to raise funds.
Thanks to the support of many Yamaha fans who participated in this prize draw and raised the funds, Riders for Health has been able to purchase 16 new AG100 units. We thank everyone who made this possible!
Donating AG100s and thrilling fundraising activities foreseen in 2023
We continue to focus on the Riders for Health’s Gambia programme as the replacement of their ageing AG100 fleet remains the most urgent matter.
Therefore, this year we will donate 16 AG100 units to Riders for Health to speed up the replacement of the ageing fleet. On top of that, Two Wheels for Life will organise a number of prize draws and/ or auctions with special and exciting Yamaha items that we will donate; among which Yamaha WorldSBK and MXGP special guest passes to various races around Europe.
And of course, Riders for Health remains the title partner of our Yamaha Ténéré World Raid Team who just participated in the Morocco Desert Challenge and will compete again in the Africa Eco Race later this year.
In addition to this, Riders for Health will be/ is on tour with us celebrating our Ténéré 40th Anniversary at various Ténéré Spirit events around Europe.

¿Quiénes son Riders for Health?
Más del 60 % de la población africana vive en comunidades rurales a muchos kilómetros de los servicios sanitarios esenciales y los medios de transporte de los que disponen son carretas tiradas por burros o carretillas, o tienen que desplazarse a pie.
A menudo, las personas de estas comunidades remotas no pueden acceder a la atención sanitaria básica que la mayoría de nosotros daríamos por sentada, como la inmunización de bebés, el diagnóstico y tratamiento de enfermedades y la atención a mujeres embarazadas y ancianos.
Durante más de 30 años, Riders for Health ha garantizado que los médicos, los enfermeros y los profesionales sanitarios puedan llegar a las comunidades en un transporte fiable y, actualmente, lleva a cabo programas en Gambia, Lesoto, Malawi y Nigeria.
El terreno en estas regiones suele ser difícil y las carreteras suelen estar sin pavimentar. Hay incluso pendientes rocosas empinadas, por lo que las motos suelen ser el vehículo más adecuado para esa tarea debido a su durabilidad y capacidad para acceder a áreas donde los vehículos más grandes no pueden llegar. Riders for Health no solo consigue los vehículos más adecuados, sino que también ofrece servicios de formación, combustible y mantenimiento para garantizar que esos vehículos funcionen de manera segura y eficiente día tras día.
Los trabajadores comunitarios de la salud que usan una moto proporcionada por Riders for Health pueden visitar seis veces más personas que a pie. Además, disponer de ese medio de transporte duplica la cantidad de tiempo que pueden estar en cada pueblo que visitan.
