Yamaha's Yard Built projects have led the way in the revival of the cool custom world. Developing relationships with the rock stars of motorcycle customising, the project has delivered an incredible line up of unique and breath-taking one-off Yard Builts based on the Sport Heritage range of motorcycles. Legendary customizers from across the globe have turned their skilled hands to proving how easy it is to customize one of Yamaha's very flexible retro machines. The exercise provides inspiration and has set new trends in the motorcycle world, making it a reality for everyone to make their Yamaha their own.
VMAX 'Infrared' by JVB Moto
To mark the special occasion of the VMAX’s 30th anniversary Yamaha has formed a collaboration with cologne-based German builder JvB-Moto to create a fitting Yard Built tribute to the iconic machine.
JvB-moto’s vision for the VMAX Yard Built special was to transfer the stock VMAX into a radical dragster meets café racer concept.
At the front end, a custom-made aluminium mudguard sits below a JvB-moto signature style custom carbon fibre headlight unit integrated into the front forks and Motogadget indicators and above custom carbon wheel covers. Modified aftermarket clip-on bars are added along with an authentic American dragster rev counter by Autometer.
Further custom work includes a beautiful custom carbon tank cover, a heavily modified airbox and electrics and special air intake scoops crafted from stock aluminium units from the original 80’s VMAX.
The stunning craftsmanship continues with a handmade aluminium subframe crafted from bits of the stock unit and a custom fuel tank placed under the seat, holding the same fuel as the standard tank for an unspoiled riding experience.
The rear is beautifully finished with another JvB-moto signature piece, a custom carbon tail unit, handmade by Jens. The exhaust system is modified with a custom 4-1 collector and finished with a growling Termignoni silencer. Reflecting the history of the bike, and of Yamaha, JvB-moto chose a retro colour scheme based on the livery of Yamaha’s 1985 GP team for real authenticity.
