Key Features

    Completely redesigned engine

The YZ250F's already potent engine was treated to a host of refinements, including an all-new cylinder head with an improved intake port shape, new exhaust camshaft profile, a new silencer, and an updated ECU and more – to produce stronger mid- to top-end power and increased peak power, while retaining its class-leading low-end torque.

  • alt

    New-shape exhaust camshaft

A key feature on the 2021 model is the adoption of a new exhaust camshaft with reshaped lobes that reduce valve overlap for stronger low to mid-range punch – and the Denso 12-hole injector benefits from optimized fuel injection settings that ensure higher performance with greater controllability.

  • alt

    More effective intake system

Yamaha’s innovative reversed cylinder head layout features a front-facing inlet that enables fresh air to enter directly into the engine for increased intake efficiency. For 2021 Yamaha’s engineers have designed an even more effective intake with additional ducting that gives the air a smoother and shorter route to the cylinder head for increased high rpm performance.

  • alt

    Higher-capacity muffler

Just 70mm longer than the previous design, the new lightweight muffler gives an increase in exhaust capacity that dampens high frequency sounds to deliver a more torquey and pleasant exhaust note. With its wraparound exhaust and compact muffler, this high-performance system ensures smooth engine running and contributes towards mass centralization.

  • alt

    Tougher clutch and slicker transmission

Alongside the wide range of performance-boosting engine features for the new season, Yamaha’s engineers have also uprated the clutch with a new heavy-duty housing that is stronger than previously. Together with newly designed 3rd, 4th and 5th gears, the 2021 YZ250F’s transmission delivers a light and precise feel with increased durability.

  • alt

    Refined aluminium beam frame

For 2021 the YZ250F’s lightweight and agile aluminium beam frame has been refined and retuned by modifying its thickness at strategic points, using new engine mounts and adjusting the balance of rigidity. These changes give an even lighter feel to the handling, while also helping to give a more controlled and less physically demanding ride.

  • alt

    Industry-leading front forks

The spring-type front forks on the YZ250F feature an industry-leading speed sensitive damping system that enables the suspension to deliver effective shock absorption over many different surfaces. For 2021 this premium system is further improved with more progressive damping that gives more predictable handling with increased front end traction.

  • alt

    Optimized Monocross rear suspension

Yamaha’s link-type Monocross rear suspension has been setting the standard for many years, and to complement the changes to the frame and forks, the rear end runs with revised damping that optimizes rear wheel traction and reduces the pitching effects on whoops.

  • alt

    Repositioned handlebars

To enable you to quickly shift your weight and load the front end, the handlebar clamps are mounted 15mm further forward. And the rigidity of both the clamps and the new lighter top triple clamp has been adjusted to help give improved shock absorption for reduced stress on your hands, wrists and forearms.

  • alt

    Lighter and more powerful brakes

Braking performance is increased by the use of a new more rigid front caliper equipped with larger 25.4mm diameter pistons – while the new 270mm front disc gives an increase in pad/disc contact area. The rear brake runs with a new caliper and redesigned rotor to give a 120g overall saving.

Instant engine tuning with Yamaha Power Tuner app

Every YZ250F owner can tune their engine’s performance using the Power Tuner app on their smartphone. This free app enables you to adjust fuel and ignition settings to suit different tracks and conditions, and then save two of your maps to the bike’s switchable ECU for ‘on the fly’ adjustments.

  • alt

    Handlebar-mounted 2-mode mapping switch

Once you’ve selected your two preferred engine maps and preloaded them for your riding session using the Power Tuner app you can select your preferred mapping using the handlebar-mounted switch. This on-the-fly adjustment enables you to switch the mapping mode – with the throttle shut – while riding, giving you the ultimate control in all conditions.

    Next-generation Icon Blue bodywork

The 2021 YZ250F gets an all-new image with its next generation Icon Blue colour scheme and new graphics that give this bike a professional and aggressive new look. For a more coordinated appearance the front and side plates are now also finished in blue to match the tank, fenders and wheels.
