The Project
The Ténéré 700 World Raid is the latest in a series of adventure machines that runs all the way back to the ever celebrated Ténéré 600, released in 1983. The Ténéré line is now, and has always been, about exploration, about getting into the wild and chewing up miles on a bike that can take a beating. It’s two wheels, an engine and a monster fuel tank that’s engineered to get the rider from A to Z. The 2018 Ténéré 700 World Raid is a world hopping event that shows Yamaha never lost their sense of adventure.
Taking the Ténéré 700 out into the world isn’t just about getting in front of the people, it’s about bringing the people along on the ride of a lifetime. The Routes
Yamaha have chosen locations across the globe that will challenge their ambassadors and demonstrate just what the Ténéré 700 World Raid is capable of. From the outback of Australia, to unforgiving deserts in South America, to the toughest of environments throughout Europe; this is a route for the fearless and an adventure to be marvelled at.
Stage 1
Continent: Australia
Route: Hervey Bay to Dubbo
Distance: 1.200 km
Riders: Rodney Faggotter
Special fact: Joins the Ténéré Tragic’s Bay to Bush Run
Australia is known for its harsh conditions and stunning scenery and Rodney Faggotter knows it better than most. The Official Yamalube Yamaha Rally Team rider joins the Ténéré Tragics on their Bay to Bush Run to show off the world beating engineering that goes into this latest iteration of Yamaha’s premier adventure technology. The event is a completely Ténéré focused race and features classic models from throughout the decades.
Stage 2
Continent: Africa
Route: Merzouga to Merzouga
Distance: 600 km
Riders: Stephane Peterhansel
Special fact: This stage follows part of the route of the original Paris to Dakar Rally
No event in motorsports history screams adventure like the Paris to Dakar Rally. While in recent years it has moved to South America due to instability in the original region, the spirit of Dakar lives on. To test the capabilities of th Ténéré 700 World Raid, rally legend Stephane Peterhansel will be retreading some of the route where he won an incredible thirteen Paris to Dakar rallies. With the Ténéré 700 World Raid being a direct descendant of the bike he won his first Dakar victories on, who better to show the way?
Stage 3
Continent: South America
Route: Takes in a portion of the current Dakar Rally route
Distance: 800 km
Riders: Adrien van Beveren
Special fact: The Dakar Rally has been run in South America since 2009
Here the Ténéré 700 World Raid World raid moves from the original Dakar Rally to the location of the current route. Adrien van Beveren picks up duties as ambassador here where he battles the odds every year as part of the Yamalube Yamaha Official Rally Team. Adrien is ready to show just how challenging the terrain can be and just how well the Ténéré 700 World Raid can handle it. South America is a breeding ground for rally legends and that’s down to changeable conditions, difficult terrain and spectacular scenery. Stage 4
Continent: Europe
Distance: 1850 km
Riders: Nick Sanders, Alessandro Botturi, David Frétigné, Herbert Schwartz, Cristòbal Guerrero
Special fact: This stage will cover the most diverse terrain and feature multiple locations with multiple ambassadors.
Stage four promises to be the most varied of the stages. After the deserts of Australia, Morocco and Argentina, the 2018 Ténéré 700 World Raid finds its way to the diverse wilderness locales of Europe. From woody backcountry to the alpine playgrounds of Italy, the European leg is designed to show off the ultimate versatility of the Ténéré 700 World Raid. The stage and the World Raid as a whole are finished off at the Hard Alpi Tour in Italy, an event that pits a whole range of riders against dirt tracks and winding roads found in the Italian Alps. A fitting end to an incredible adventure.
